MCAA COVID-19 RESPONSE POLICY
Updated 6/27/2020

Purpose: To mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission among athletes, parents, coaches, and other volunteer staff.

Environment: Practice fields at Hyde Elementary and Moon Area Middle School, Tiger Stadium, and membership meeting forums.

Objective: Moon Crescent Athletic Association strives to continue to provide a safe, productive athletic environment for all participants and spectators. Given the current obstacles presented to us by the COVID-19 pandemic, this policy has been enacted in an effort to mitigate the risk of infection and transmission of COVID-19 among participants and their families.

Strategies: Using up-to-date best practices recommendations, we will monitor the health and wellbeing of the athletes, coaches, and volunteers. Guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control, PA Department of Health, Moon Area School District, and the Parkway Youth Football League will be strictly adhered to.

Actions:

  • Any participant who has had symptoms of a respiratory infection (cough, sore throat, change in taste/smell, fever of 100.4 or greater, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or fatigue) will be excluded from activities until symptoms/fever are no longer present.
  • Temperature screenings using no-touch thermometers will be conducted prior to all MCAA group activities. Any participant with a temperature of 100.4 or greater will excluded from the event.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at all practices, games, and social events. Hand sanitizer will have an alcohol content of at least 60%.
  • Portable bathroom facilities will be sanitized prior to and after activities, as well as intermittently throughout the duration of each activity. A CDC-recommended sanitizer/disinfectant will be used. Each bathroom will have hand sanitizer and stock will be checked prior to practices/games.
  • Bathroom facilities at Tiger Stadium will be cleaned and sanitized prior to each game, intermittently during games, and at the end of game day. CDC-recommended sanitizer will be used.
  • Equipment such as blocking pads, sleds, tackling dummies, and any other multi-use equipment, to include footballs, will be sanitized/disinfected prior to and after all practices and games.
  • Each team will be assigned their designated training aids (blocking pads, balls, tackling wheel, etc.). These items will not be shared among other MCAA teams.
  • Each child will be required to bring their own labeled water bottle to practices and games. Coaching staff is responsible for ensuring that water sources are not shared among players/cheerleaders.
  • Social distancing measures will be in place during practice and game day operations.
  • At practices, parents will be asked to maintain proper social distancing while observing practice activities. Cheer practices will remain closed to parents at the discretion of the Cheer Commissioner.
  • Coaches and volunteers may choose to wear face coverings; however, social distancing will be utilized to mitigate risk.
  • Athletes will not be required to wear face coverings.
  • In the event that a participant becomes ill or is suspected/confirmed positive for COVID-19 infection, the individual should immediately notify either their coach or a MCAA Board member. The individual should not return to MCAA activities until they have been cleared to return by a healthcare provider.
  • Parents of MCAA athletes will be required to sign a COVID Liability Waiver.
  • A Daily Health Screening questionnaire must be completed for all practices and games. Screenings will be collected at the beginning of each practice and game. The head coach of each team/squad will keep these screenings in the team binder. Any athlete who has not submitted a Daily Health Assessment Form will not be permitted to remain at practice/games.

Game Day: At this time, we have not been given specific instructions on the use of Tiger Stadium by Moon Area School District. We have discussed contingency plans for egress/exfil of athletes and spectators, concession stand procedures, and parking flows. Once we are provided with the MASD’s recommendations, we will tailor our game day operations accordingly.

Required Equipment:
• CDC-approved sanitizer/disinfected
• Pump Sprayer x 2
• Hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol)
• No-touch thermometers x 2

Performance Indicators: Directives in this policy will be continuously reviewed to ensure strict adherence to the evolving recommendations set forth by the PA Department of Health, Moon Area School District, and the Parkway Youth Football League. Should it be found at any point during the season that we are unable to safely provide this sporting experience, a board vote will be held to discuss suspension of the remainder of the season.

Disclosure: As recommendations evolve, this policy will be amended to satisfy the most current recommendations. The purpose of this policy is not to supersede recommendations set forth by the PA Department of Health and/or Moon Area School District.
