Chili Cheese Dogs Win First Game!

What a great first week! Just about everything went right and the team played really, really well in a 3-1 victory. There was passing, hustle, defense, break-aways...we did a lot of things right. There were only a couple of mistakes; we took the ball in front of the goal and the other team was able to turn that into a score. There was also a little bit of swarming to the ball going on - but hey if the game was perfect the kids wouldn't need us!

Our four goal keepers were terrific. They did a good job distributing the ball to someone on the sidelines, and then the team did a good bringing it up the field. My favorite sequence of the entire game started with the GK rolling the ball to a defender, who passing it to mid-field, who then made a great pass between two defenders and create a break-away. The play finished by converting the goal. But out of our 7 players, 4 had touches in that 10-15 seconds. That's what we are trying to develop and the fact that we did it in the first game is really exciting.

We ended up with three goals total, with a couple rolling in front of the opponents goal past a well-positioned player who couldn't quite get to them. After a few games, those passes should start turning into goals too.
