The MCAA has accepted an offer to join the South Suburban Youth Football League ("SSYFL") starting with the 2009 football season.
The SSYFL (www.southsuburbanfootball.com) is comprised of organization that are AAA and AAAA school districts such as Montour, West Allegheny, Chartiers Valley, and Thomas Jefferson.  These schools are all same school districts that our High School program competes against.  

Why did we change leagues?     
The main reason that the MCAA has accepted this offer to join the SSYFL is because our organization has been growing in numbers and we anticipate this growth to continue therefore the team format structures of the SSYFL is a better fit for our organization.  The main complaints addressed to the MCAA Board in the past has dealt with playing time for all the football players and the weight limits for the older teams.  Our MM 2008 team started with a head count of 40 football players and we played most of the season with 36 players due to some injuries.  The team format structure of the SSYFL will directly address these issues. 
The 2009 football teams will be structured as follows:

Twerps       Ages 6 to 8 as of July 31 with a maximum weight of 90#
Termites     Age 9 as of July 31 with a maximum weight of 105#
MM           Age 10 as of July 31 with a maximum weight of 120#
Midgets      Age 11 as of July 31 with a maximum weight of 135#
Seniors     Ages 12 and 13 as of July 31 with a maximum weight of 160#.
